Origin & Reason of Farting
Generally all the nutrients such as carbohydrates & Proteins are absorbed in the small intestine. Some of our food contains complex carbohydrates which cannot be absorbed in the small intestine and pass to large intestine. The large intestine have bacteria which ferment these complex nutrients and produce gas

Foods that Causes Gas
The consumption of food items which contain more of complex nutrients not being absorbed in the small intestine causes excessive gas formation. These food items include
(A)complex carbohydrate in wheat (pasta, white bread), oats, bran, lentils and beans.
(B)Vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, onions, sprouts

Swallowing Air Causes Flatulence
We do not realize that some of our habits causes us to swallow more air. These include smoking, eating or drinking too fast, chewing gum, sucking, drinking carbonated drinks, wearing loose dentures and anxiety. Most of these air is removed by burping, but some may pass further and eventually be released at the opposite end

When should you consult a doctor
Diseases of the small intestine may lead to maldigestion or unabsorption of nutrients which pass to large intestine, allowing bacteria to ferment these nutrients, causing excessive gas formation. These disorders include
(A) Bacterial Overgrowth Syndrome
(B) Celiac disease
(C) Gastroparesis
(D) Lactose intolerance
